Ox Yoke Ministry is dedicated to sharing the Gospel of Jesus through Christian Cowboy Poetry.

Our ministry is based on Matthew 11:28-30.

Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest.

Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.

For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.

King James Version

Writing and reciting poetry brings a measure of contentment.  Whether reciting a poem written by the 'Old Masters' or an original poem written by 'yours truly', sharing the message of Jesus through poetry is our calling.

 Tribute to the American Cowboy
Bob Upchurch

When the Good Lord made the cowboy,
In the days of Creation past.
He took a special lump of clay,
The kind of clay that'll last.

And when He breathed into his nostrils,
That cowboy soul came alive.
Now it's a far piece from the ordinary,
It's a soul that's meant to thrive.

You see, the cowboy is somewhat original;
He stands alone in a crowd.
He's just as content all by himself;
He's confident, but never proud.

A cowboy is humble to a fault,
He won't offer an opinion till asked.
Don't confuse manners with being shy,
You go first, he'll go last.

Come Sunday morning sometime before noon,
His work will stop for the day.
A clean pair of jeans, an old wild rag,
Tme to worship and pray.

Now the spring gives way to summer.
Summer gives way to fall.
The hands of time turn too soon,
And the winter awaits us all.

But he has a son right behind him,
And now there's a grandchild or two.
The cowboy way will continue,
In the things they say and do.

So if you like the feel of an old pair of jeans,
A Resistol and a good country song,
Then you just might be a cowboy,
Or you'll do till one comes along.
